January Resident Profile: Jim Parriott

Paratrooper Parriott 1950s

Our residents at Assisted Living of Draper make us special.  With that in mind, we begin a new “Resident Profile” series.

We want to share with you the incredible life stories of the people who live here. Sometimes it is hard to realize the rich lives our elderly have experienced.  Especially, if communication has been diminished because of health issues.  We also might forget to take time to dig deeper through longer, more meaningful conversations.  At Assisted Living of Draper we LOVE to learn about the very interesting life journeys and lessons our residents have to teach us.  They are fascinating, and we’d like to share their profile with you here!

We will begin with JIM PARRIOTT, one of our newest residents at Assisted Living of Draper.

Jim grew up on a farm in Kiester, Minnesota with 4 siblings.  Life on the farm was tough, but is where Jim was taught the value of responsibility.  He excelled as a Golden Glove boxer for some time, before joining the Army to become a paratrooper.  After military service, Jim served as an Indy 500 welder which was an exciting chapter of his life.  As an avid alpine skier he was always interested in his next greatest ski adventure.

In 1965, as a bachelor, Jim rolled into a small cowboy town called Jackson Hole, Wyoming where he heard a new ski resort was opening.  In the early days, he made a living for himself as a ski instructor and as a ski patrolman.  But, as time went on, he discovered real opportunity in this popular vacation destination as a Real Estate Professional.

Jim first became a Realtor in Jackson.  But his entrepreneurial sense guided him in a fruitful real estate investment career there. Jim was so respected for his knowledge in the space that he was nominated for two 4-year terms as The Wyoming Real Estate Commissioner in the 1990s-early 2000s.

Jim’s favorite hobby, besides consuming a lot of black coffee, is spending time with his many grandchildren, 3 of whom live near him in the Salt Lake City area.  Jim is just one example of the amazing journey our residents have had over decades of life that we will profile here!
